Japanese auto manufacturer Daihatsu has been in the car business under that name since the 1950’s although its predecessor Hatsudoki Seizo began its operations in 1907. Specializing in compact cars, Daihatsu’s better known offerings include the Charade, Rocky and Midget. Due to poor sales, Daihatsu closed up shop in the United States in 1992, but Toyota still carries some Daihatsu vehicles. Daihatsu’s motto is “Innovation for Tomorrow”, and that may be just what they have in mind with the creation of the Mira, a battery operated vehicle which can run a record- breaking 623 miles per charge.
