Isuzu traces its lineage back to 1916 and is still quite competitive in the Commercial Vehicle and Truck market worldwide. However, Isuzu no longer makes passenger cars for export. In 2008, Isuzu motor company announced it would no longer make passenger vehicles for export to the United States. The Isuzu Trooper compact SUV was quite popular in its time and the I series sedans were well thought of, but Isuzu could not compete in the market as a dealer in passenger vehicles. What Isuzu does and did do well is produce commercial vehicles and diesel engines. Isuzu is known around the world for the quality of its diesel engines and produces diesels for General Motors.
