A name synonymous with class and prestige, Lincoln is the luxury marquee for Ford Motor Company and has been since Henry Ford acquired it from Henry M. Leland. This purchase was very satisfying to Mr. Ford both professionally and personally. Mr. Ford and Mr. Leland were not friendly. At that time, if you were rich and American, you drove a Cadillac, a Packard or a Lincoln. Packard fell by the wayside replaced by the Chrysler but Cadillac and Lincoln continued to be the top end of American Luxury cars. Lincoln continued to lead in styling and performance with the introduction of a massive V12 and the design of the original Zephyr, which became the Continental.
