British engineer Anthony Colin Bruce Chapman loved racing so much that, in 1948, he built his own car, and the Lotus was born. Joining the RAF that same year, Chapman continued to build cars when on leave. In 1952, he established the Lotus Engineering Company with Team Lotus forming two years later. The racing team was instantly successful, and continued to be so. Chapman and his team continued to build better cars, eventually expanding to include the passenger car market in 1984. The Lotus Esprit Turbo appeared in the James Bond film “For Your Eyes Only” in 1981, and in 2001, Autocar Magazine called it “Britain’s Best Drivers”.
