Even if you’ve never heard of a Mini, if you’ve ever seen a film or television series showing scenes of British traffic, you’ve seen one, or at least something that was influenced by one. In 1959, the British were suffering from a fuel shortage. In response, British Motor Company built the Mini. Somewhat resembling a box with wheels, most of the space in the vehicle is reserved for passengers and cargo. Second only to the Ford Model T, the Mini has carried more influence than any other vehicle in the 20th century. BMW currently owns BMC, and Americans have been able to buy Minis at home since 2002.
