As the song goes, many people are “crazy ‘bout a Mercury”, which was built by Ford, starting in 1938, to compete against General Motors Pontiac and Oldsmobile. Edsel Ford wanted something to economically fall between Lincoln and Ford: a middle class car owner’s car. He named the new car Mercury after the wing-footed Roman god. Current Mercury vehicles include the Milan, Mariner, Mountaineer and Gran Marquis. Sadly, Ford has decided to discontinue the Mercury line at the end of 2010 although it will continue to support brand owners with service and parts. Which should not be all that difficult since Mercury is similar to other Ford vehicles.
