The French family Peugeot started in business in the year 1810, and branched out into automobiles in 1891. Five years later, differences in opinion caused Armand Peugeot to found the Societe des Automobiles Peugeot. The Lion trademark had been granted to the family in the 1850s. Armand was a contemporary of Daimler and both met with and learned from him. An innovator in his own right, Armand was the first to use solid rubber tires, and one of the first involved in auto racing. Today, Peugeot builds all types of vehicles from sports cars to family cars to hybrid vehicles.
