Pontiac was actually acquired by GM in 1905, but didn’t get produced by that name until 1926. It started out as a reliable, although not terribly powerful vehicle whose styling remained largely unchanged through the 1940s. During the early fifties, some rear end styling changes were made, but true change didn’t come until 1955 when the V8 engine was introduced along with new bodies and new chassis. Over the years, popular Pontiacs included the Bonneville, Master Streak convertible, and of course the GTO. Unfortunately, GM has announced it will stop building Pontiacs at the end of this year.
