Saab began in Sweden in 1937. Originally created for airplane manufacturing, (the letters S-a-a-b are actually an acronym for the Swedish Airplane Corporation as it is spelled in Swedish) Saab owners saw post WWII opportunity in auto manufacturing deciding to focus on small affordable vehicles. Perhaps due to the aircraft building back ground, Saab engineers believed in rigorous testing, which resulted in excellent automobiles and many innovations over the years, including ventilated seats and self repairing bumpers. GM wholly bought Saab in 2000 and was later sold in 2010 to Spyker Cars due to GM’s financial troubles.
