Subaru is part of Fiji Heavy Industries, a Japanese company created from the merger of five other organizations in the 1950s. US Subaru sales began in 1968, and General Motors has part ownership in the company. Popular offerings from Subaru have included the Brat (which until 1985 had two seats in the bed, causing it to be classified as a passenger vehicle instead of a truck), the Impreza, the Forrester and the Outback, which was awarded Sport/Utility car of the Year by Motortrend Magazine for two consecutive years. Other recognitions include the 2010 residual value award.
